#6 Let Us Help You Start Your Own Meaningful Movies Venue In Your Community!

by December 30, 2014 3

DOES YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD WANT A MEANINGFUL MOVIES?

It’s easy to start. It doesn’t need to be big. You don’t need a large budget. You could even seed this in your living room and relocate later to another location as you grow.

This is a wonderful way to build community. Films can inspire, educate, illuminate.  And the experience can be so much more meaningful if it’s shared with others, especially if it’s followed by dialog generated around the issues brought out in the film. The community you build and the friends you make in the process are the best rewards of all.

We at The Meaningful Movies Project are here to assist however we can.   …read on!

    Hi there Marilee!
I think it would be wonderful to start a Meaningful Movies in Hawaii.
We’d love to help however we can.

Focusing on issues important to your food co-op there in Pahoa sounds like an ideal effort to organize around, and likely of interest to a broad audience. And food and food security touches on so many other topics, so it would give you a broad range of topics to explore.

Setting this up would be fairly easy. Have you had a chance to look over the “Start A Group” section on the website?
It can be as easy as inviting a group to gather to share DVD showings at someone’s house on a regular basis with discussions following, to organizing large formal screenings in a theater with speakers; or most common, something in between: screenings and discussions in a community space (library, community center, grange, church, etc.). You might consider starting small and growing until you need a larger venue. The idea is to bring people together on a regular basis to learn, share thoughts, advocate together and build community.

I’d love to know more about what you have in mind, and how we can support you to make it happen.
Feel free to email or call anytime.

    All the very best!
    Rick

Were currently looking for volunteers to help us out with these new Meaningful Movies locations around the city. From technical skills to none at all, come join the fun. This is a wonderful way to get involved in helping build a movement, and helping these neighborhood groups succeed in educating and advocating for social, economic and environmental justice. It’s also a great way to make friends and help build community. Please contact us at info@meaningfulmovies.org, and let us know what neighborhood you’re in, and/or what Meaningful Movies Group you might be interested in helping. Thanks!
