Welcome To The Meaningful Movies Forums
This “FORUMS” section is:
- A place to discuss issues around topics, make suggestions, and pose questions to others in network, e.g., specific film events (“Film Forums”), how discussions went, film-specific resources, suggestions for others’ screenings, etc.;
- A communication tool between any members within the network, and between members of your neighborhood group (“MMP Groups”);
- A place to access resources; and a place to upload resources for others to use.
Feel free to use any of the information you find here. Download, copy, modify, etc. as you wish (and let us know of any improvements you make). Please appropriately lable all materials you use and distribute with either with your own specific group’s network name, e.g., “Meaningful Movies in Seattle”, or with the name “Meaningful Movies Project”. It’s to all of our benefit to get the name “Meaningful Movies” broadcast widely whereever we get a chance. If an item has a copyright symbol, please keep this in place.
Please Read This Before Posting or Adding New Topics:
- Please be very respectful in your postings. Keep them as brief as is practical.
- See How To Post a New Topic in a Forum for information on adding a new Topic.
- When starting a new topic, put the title of the topic on the Subject line. Do not use the title of a previous topic. If you don’t use an appropriate subject description, then, people who are interested in your topic may never read your message.
- If your discussion extends beyond the benefit of the group as a whole, please take your conversation off-line, and return with a summary.
- Please re-read your posts before you send them.
- Obviously, inappropriate language and tone are not acceptable here, and are counterproductive. If you disagree with, please do so in a friendly and respectful manner.
- If anyone encounters what they feel to be abuse of these policies, please let the site administrator know. Anyone can be barred from the forums immediately.
Please help this become a robust resource for us all. Thanks!

- Network SeriesRacing Extinction Network Series The film deals with several examples of the overarching theme of the Anthropocene Extinction, in that the spread of Homo sapiens has caused the greatest mass extinction since the KT event 66 million years ago, including global warming and poaching, and the efforts of scientists, photographers and volunteers to protect endangered species. The film implicates overpopulation, globalization and animal agriculture as leading causes of extinction. Anthropogenic global warming from greenhouse gas emissions is identified as a leading cause of extinction, as organisms cannot adapt to unprecedented changes in not only temperature, but weather, ocean chemistry and atmospheric composition. The film focuses on the amount of methane producedy by livestock, particularly cattle, and trapped methane escaping from frozen reservoirs in the Arctic, the latter drawing parallels to the runaway greenhouse effect that may have caused the Permian mass extinction that wiped out 95% of species. Carbon dioxide and methane emissions from transportation, animals and factories are made visible to the human eye for the first time with a specially designed high definition FLIR (forward looking infra red) camera, with a special color filter. Ocean acidification and the subsequent degradation of corals and other calcium carbonate-based marine organisms are revealed with lab experiments and comparisons of archived photographs to the state of the same reefs in the 2010s. The degradation of marine ecosystems and the implications of coastal habitations are highlighted.
