SUMMARY:True Justice - Screening and Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us and the Northwest African American Museum\, Kunhardt Fi
lms\, ACLU WA\, and others for a screening and discussion of "True Justice
: Bryan Stevenson’s Fight for Equality." The film follows 30 years of
Stevenson's work on behalf of the poor\, the incarcerated\, and the condem
ned. Told primarily in his own words\, "True Justice" shares Stevenson's e
xperience with a criminal justice system that “treats you better if you
’re rich and guilty than if you’re poor and innocent.” The burden of
facing this system is explored in candid interviews with associates at th
 e Equal Justice Initiative\, close family members\, and clients.\n\nThis f
eature documentary focuses on Bryan Stevenson’s life and career—partic
ularly his indictment of the U.S. criminal justice system for its role in
codifying modern systemic racism—and tracks the intertwined histories of
slavery\, lynching\, segregation and mass incarceration. The film also do
cuments the monumental opening of EJI’s Legacy Museum and its National M
emorial for Peace and Justice\, which is dedicated to the more than 4\,400
African American victims of lynching.\n\n"True Justice: Bryan Stevenson
’s Fight for Equality" reveals a history that can’t be forgotten in th
e pursuit of genuine justice.\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nWe gratefully accept don
ations to help offset the costs of presenting the films we screen. After r
egistering\, you will receive a zoom link for the screening and panel disc
 ussion.
