To Err is Human
PRESENTED BY: Meaningful Movies BellevueThe 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. is its own healthcare system. Medical mistakes lead to as many as 440,000 preventable deaths each year. How can we protect ourselves, our families, and our communities, and make the medical world safe for all patients? This documentary takes an in-depth look at the silent epidemic of patient harm and those working quietly behind the scenes to create a new age of patient safety. Directed by the son of the late patient safety pioneer, Dr. John M. Eisenberg, the film tells the story of the Sheridan family’s compelling journey from victim to empowerment. It interweaves their experience with interviews of healthcare leaders on the front line of efforts leading to better care. The film provides unique, up- to-date insight into the ongoing fight against preventable medical harm, highlighting effective solutions. It encourages us all to become informed consumers of healthcare and our own best advocates in a complex, flawed healthcare system.
Guest Speakers: Yanling Yu and Rex Johnson, founders of Washington Advocates for Patient Safety, will be joined by Ross H. Ehrmantraut, Clinical Director, Team Performance at UW Medicine in a post-film Q&A and discussion of efforts to improve patient safety in Seattle and Washington state.
Come join us! The event is free but donations are gladly accepted to defray our costs. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The film begins at 7:00, with a facilitated community discussion following the film.
