The Mt Baker, West Seattle, and Kirkland Meaningful Movies Groups are pleased to co-present an in person screening of The FTA Show with Seattle Veterans for Peace and the UW SE Asia Center.

The Boys Who Said NO! stars Joan Baez, Daniel Ellsberg, David Harris, Mark Rudd (2020, 1 hr 30 min). This feature-length documentary about draft resisters who opposed the US war against Viet Nam is compelling because of the historical footage, the story of determined resistance, and the example of how to build a movement. It’s relevant for the present because of the currently proposed extension of  draft registration to women, rather than ending it for men.

This event will be held on the University of Washington Campus at the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, in Thompson Hall, Room 101.

This screening accompanies the Seattle Vets For Peace exhibit located at the North Allen Lobby of Suzzallo Library.

Want to learn more and get involved? Suggested action steps for viewers can include:

*See the “Waging Peace” Exhibit which runs from September 28 to October 28 at the Suzzallo Library and encourage others to do the same.

*Encourage students to submit essays to the Seattle Chapter of Veterans For Peace for their sponsored contest. Essays will be about what the exhibit or ancillary activities means to them and the future. Nick Ut, the combat photographer who took the famous “Napalm Girl” photo, will be the celebrity judge for the contest. $500 prize for the winning essay. *Join the monthly First Tuesday antiwar vigils in front of the Federal Building in downtown Seattle, and join the Seattle Antiwar Coalition, or other groups here in Seattle or in their home community, opposing the use of war or threat of war.

*Take up the issue of eliminating draft registration requirements rather than expanding them to women.

*Attend the Seattle Conference on Oct 6th to explore some of the GI resistance themes raised by the exhibit. (Contact wpvn@vfp92.org  for more information.)

The “Waging Peace in Vietnam,” exhibit, Sept 28 through Oct 28, presents a detailed overview of GI resistance to the US invasion and occupation of Viet Nam and will be on display on the Seattle UW campus in the North Allen ground floor lobby, in the Suzzallo library building. Simultaneously, a satellite display will be exhibited in the Colins Memorial Library on the campus of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.

In conjunction with the exhibit in Seattle, Sir, No Sir! and two other films will be screened on the UW campus, at 6pm on Thursdays through October in Thompson 101 on the UW campus.
