SUMMARY:STORIES OF US: CAMP SECOND CHANCE
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for this important film about our local unhou
 sed community.\n\nIn this powerful award-winning film\, director Melinda R
aebyne embeds herself one winter at one of Seattle’s homeless camps\, Ca
mp Second Chance\, challenging public ignorance and humanizing a populatio
n that locals would rather neglect\, sharing with you some of their person
al stories and her actual experience of what it’s like to be homeless. B
y putting faces to the statistics and a voice to their stories\, she human
izes a population in ways that allow viewers to see themselves and better
relate to a neglected and often “forgotten population.”\n\nWhat’s po
ssible when society’s “forgotten population” decides to beat the odd
s and instead of putting hope into a broken system invest their hopes in e
ach other\, using the pains of their past to be the fuel that drives them
to create a better tomorrow. Camp Second Chance is an encampment founded b
y the homeless to foster an environment that allows them to become product
ive people in society. “Stories of Us” are their stories and ours\, on
e of triumph\, showing us that the power lies within our own willpower not
to just survive but to thrive.\n\n“Stories of Us” was awarded the Tur
ner Legacy Award by Meaningful Movies Project in 2020 and the Audience Cho
ice Award at the Tacoma Film Festival.\n\nCost: This is a free event\, how
ever\, donations to support the program are greatly appreciated.\nTime: D
oors open at 6:30\, viewing starts at 7:00\n\nWestside supports masking\,
provides spaces for social distancing\, and is wheelchair accessible.\n\nT

in more insights from our speakers.\n\nSpecial Guests: Melinda Raebyne\, D

hat’s possible when given an opportunity to thrive. Her non-profit “Th
