SUMMARY:Social Justice Film Institute Presents "Change in the Family"
DESCRIPTION:The Meaningful Movies Project is co-hosting this special event
with the Social Justice Film Institute in celebration of PRIDE month.\n\nW
hen Zo transitions from female to male\, his family must also change. This
film takes a unique look at the current paradigm shift of transgender ind
ividuals being accepted more largely in society from the perspective of on
e family.\n\n"Change in the Family" explores the transgender experience th
ough the perspective of one family. The only subjects of the film are the
Thorpe family members. Zo is a 24 year old trans male who recently graduat
ed from college and is temporarily living back home while looking to estab
lish his work career. Zo’s family is both every family and it is also a
unique family: they are inter-generational\, interracial\, and transatlant
ic\, with many family members based in the UK. They value each other\, ope
nness and education. As individual family members they are refreshingly au
thentic about their thoughts and feelings about Zo and the resulting trans
formation and changes to their family.\n\nSam Hampton (the film director)
as well as Zo's mother (and Zo himself\, if he is available) will be parti
cipating.\n\nPlease check the Social Justice Film Festival and Institute F
acebook Page for the most up to date information.
