Scientists believe we have entered the sixth major extinction event in Earth’s history, following the fifth great extinction that took out the dinousaurs 66 million years ago. In the present age, called the “Anthropocene”, it is possible that humanity’s footprint on the planet will cause the loss of half of all species by 2100. And humankind is the only species whose behavior can change what we’ve started.
In RACING EXTINCTION a team of artists and activists expose a hidden world of endangered species and the race to protect them from mass extincion. They infiltrate black markets of the international animal trade and document the link between carbon emissions and species extinction. Director Louie Psihoyos has crafted an ambitious mission to clearly and artfully put into focus our impact on the planet, while inspiring us all to embrace solutions that will ensure a thriving, biodiverse world for future generations.
