Poverty, Inc.
PRESENTED BY: Meaningful Movies: Sustainable BallardEVENT LOCATION: Royal Drummer, 6420 24th Ave NW. Fighting poverty is big business. But who profits the most?
“I see multiple colonial governors,” says Ghanaian software entrepreneur Herman Chinery-Hesse of the international development establishment. “We are held captive by the donor community.”
The West has made itself the protagonist of development, giving rise to a multibillion dollar poverty industry. From TOMs Shoes to international adoptions, from solar panels to U.S. food aid, the film challenges each of us to ask the tough question: Could I be part of the problem?

RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund (REF) are sister organizations that, together, are a leading force in ending poverty in the United States and around the world. We create long-term solutions to poverty by supporting programs that address its root causes — lack of access to medical care, education, or opportunity to move up the economic ladder. We do this by empowering ordinary people to become extraordinary voices for the end of poverty in their communities, the media, and the halls of government. We leverage millions of dollars for programs and improved policies that help vulnerable people move out of poverty with dignity.
RESULTS volunteers hold public education events about poverty and active democracy, generate media coverage of our issues, and lobby directly with elected officials and their staff. We empower individuals to have breakthroughs in exercising their personal and political power.
