SUMMARY:InHospitable - the big business of nonprofit hospitals
DESCRIPTION:InHospitable is an exposé of the huge profits in the nonprofit
hospital industry and their contribution to unaffordable healthcare. We w
ill be showing the film live (in-person) at Northlake Unitarian Universali
st Church and also offering it online over Zoom.\n\nInHospitable follows
patients and activists as they band together in an effort to stop UPMC\, a
multi-billion-dollar nonprofit hospital system\, from making vital care u
naffordable for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable patients in western Pe
nnsylvania. Few are aware that in the past several years many nonprofit ho
spitals around the country have been building healthcare empires and amass
ing huge amounts of wealth and political power at the expense of the surro
unding residents. The story of InHospitable illustrates this alarming tr
end and turns the lens on the seemingly unwinnable battle between the Goli
ath UPMC and the patients\, hospital workers\, community activists\, labor
leaders\, journalists\, and politicians - almost all of them women - who
built a grassroots movement to literally fight for their lives.\n\nMore in
formation is available on the film's website at https://inhospitablefilm.c
om/.\n\nRegistration for the event is optional for those attending in pers
on\, but all virtual attendees must register to receive the Zoom meeting i
nformation.  \n\nClick here to register\n\nFollowing the film we will hav
e a community discussion with the director of the film\, Sandra C. Alvarez
.\n\nPlease email us at mminkirkland@dsbarnes.com if you have any question
