Meaningful Movies Rainier Beach and Mt. Baker are proud to present  FREE FOR ALL: The Public Library.  This documentary tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today’s librarians who service the public despite working in a contentious age of closures and book bans, meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all.

Special Guests: Dr. Michelle H. Martin is the Beverly Cleary Endowed Professor for Children and Youth Services in the Information School at the University of Washington, where she teaches graduate courses in children’s and young adult literature and youth services . Richard Counsil is a Regional Manager at The Seattle Public Library, specifically overseeing the programs, services and operations of the Southeast Region. Branches in that region include the Rainier Beach, NewHolly, Columbia City, Beacon Hill, and International District / Chinatown branches. Richard has worked at SPL since 2010 and worked in the Rainier Valley since 2006. He has been a Teen Services Librarian through the Southeast Region and has worked in libraries for eighteen years overall. Richard holds a MLIS and a MPA from the University of Washington's iSchool and Evans School of Public Affairs. Richard believes public libraries are a fascinating effort to foster caring, learning, tolerance and empowerment for all peoples. Richard believes in being a responsible steward of public library resources in Seattle, but also that those resources belong to everyone.
