In Cleveland’s ‘Forgotten Triangle,’ REGENERATING COMMUNITY by Thriving Communities narrates a remarkable transformation and resilience from 2010 to today. The documentary highlights the metamorphosis of a once overlooked area, burdened by the remnants of illegal dumping, into a thriving hub of urban agriculture that radiates community pride. The story extends beyond the physical reclamation of land, providing an intimate look at the individuals who spearheaded this revival, breathing new life into their neighborhood and fostering a profound sense of belonging and dignity among its residents.

The journey is anchored by the Rid-All Green Partnership, founded by childhood friends Keymah Durden, Randy McShepard, and the late Damien Forshe, whose vision in 2009 set the stage for this extraordinary revival. REGENERATING COMMUNITY illuminates Rid-All’s approach, which intertwines sustainable farming with community building, highlighting how this venture has catalyzed job creation, enhanced access to healthy food, and nurtured strong community ties. Through the transformation of the land—from a neglected dumping ground to a vibrant urban farm—the film celebrates the legacy of Damien Forshe and the enduring impact of Rid-All’s work, showcasing the power of regenerative agriculture to not only rejuvenate the earth but also to unite and empower communities.

I’m carrying the conversation to Uzbekistan this month and engaging in farmers from across the country this Spring. The Thriving Communities’ films have inspired me to this.
