SUMMARY:Fish War
DESCRIPTION:Join Meaningful Movies Port Townsend either IN PERSON (that's r
ight\, we're back in person for the first time since COVID!) or online for
our screening of Fish War.\n\nWhen the state of Washington made it illega
l for tribes to fish for salmon in their usual and accustomed places\, it
was a declaration of war. Fish War follows the tribes' fight to exercise t
heir treaty-reserved fishing rights. A landmark court case in 1974 would a
ffirm the tribes' treaty rights and establish them as co-managers of the r
esource\, but the fate of salmon in the Pacific Northwest still hangs in t
he balance.\n\nA panel discussion will follow the film.\n\nFish War is pre
sented in cooperation with the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission (NWIF
C)\, a support service organization for the 20 treaty Indian tribes in wes
tern Washington that are co-managers of the region's salmon and other natu
ral resources with the state of Washington. NWIFC provides services to tri
bes in areas such as fisheries management\, habitat protection and fish he
alth.\n\nAdmission is free but we gratefully welcome your generous donatio
ns\, which play a vital role in covering the expenses while presenting the
films we screen. Thank you for your support.\n\nThis is our first hybrid
screening with both in-person and online options\, so please come join us
in-person if you're able\, or join us online using the link below.\n\nIn-P
