SUMMARY:Chehalis: A Watershed Moment
DESCRIPTION:Please join Meaningful Movies Port Townsend and special guest f
ilmmaker Shane Anderson for an online screening of "Chehalis: A Watershed
Moment." We'll watch the film together online via Zoom (register here) sta
rting at 6:30pm (Pacific Time) and have a Q&amp\;A session following the f
ilm.  It's like the Meaningful Movies you're used to\, but online!\n\n"Ch
ehalis: A Watershed Moment" is a 60 minute documentary about how climate c
hange and a legacy of human impact is affecting Washington's Chehalis Rive
r and the people living in the watershed. Told by the people grappling wit
h decisions that will affect the fate of the river\, its salmon and their
communities\, the film explores the intersection of social\, cultural\, ec
onomic and environmental values that are increasingly being defined by a n
ew climate reality.\n\nFaced with worsening floods and a prized salmon pop
ulation on the brink of extinction\, the decisions made in the coming year
s will decide the future and fate of this watershed.\n\nOn Dec. 3\, 2007 t
he Chehalis River valley experienced a catastrophic flood like never befor
e\, marking the fourth major flood in 30 years. With the flood came the re
surgence of long-standing interest in building a flood retention dam.\n\nT
he dam proposal has spurred a massive scientific investigation to learn mo
re about this little known basin and its fragile habitat. If no action is
taken\, the prized spring Chinook population will stay on trajectory towar
d extinction.\n\nClimate change is on the doorstep of this rural American
watershed\, with models predicting a 20% increase in storm intensity and r
ising water temperatures over the next 80 years. The film asks the questio
n: Can diverse communities and cultures find common ground to solve the cr
ises of increasing floods\, droughts and the plight of an iconic species?\
n\nPLEASE NOTE: This screening will be hosted online via Zoom only\; there
is no physical event.\nREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! Please visit https://zoo
 m.us/webinar/register/WN_yz4wKawpTlupKC7TDXW3Rg to register.
